The contrasting pattern of the Black and White Chromis generate a steady drive for many hobbyists to include this striking species in their home aquariums. The Bicolor Chromis as it is frequently called are very passive in nature and can be housed in small groups of 3 to 5 if an accommodation of thirty gallons or more is provided. This will allow enough room for the adults at around three inches in length, to school and swim freely. Chromis margaritifer are safe to keep in reef tanks and will enormously assist in the cleanup of algae and debris while fulfilling their omnivorous dietary needs. Like other chromis the Black and White Chromis should also be provided the occasional extra bits of brine shrimp and other meaty foods such as small live worms.
Black and White Chromis are from the warm waters surrounding Fiji and neighboring islands, and require a temperature between 72-78°F. These conditions allow for a long life and active society that can lead to breeding, although ideal conditions include currents simulating the open reef. Beginners and experts alike will enjoy this easy to care for energetic addition, and the playful nature will significantly increase the value of life in the marine aquarium.
