The Blue Reef Chromis are a great passive addition to any mid-sized or larger marine aquarium. The active personality of the Blue Chromis is improved by having multiples of the same species to school with and hover in the upper region of the water column. Adults only grow to around 5 inches, so any enclosure of thirty gallons or more can effortlessly house this easy to care for gorgeous fish which originate in the Caribbean and Western Atlantic waters. Chromis cyaneus are non-destructive to reef life and make a wonderfully peaceful accent to environments that allow swimming through structures where they can frequently be seen peeking out for food and playmates.
The Blue Chromis thrive on an omnivore diet of prepared flake foods and meaty supplements that can be frozen or augmented shrimp sources. Ranging from a deep royal blue color, to nearly black, their colors are accentuated by light colored tips on the tail and anal fins. The deeply forked tail gives this specimen a streamlined look as they spend their days trolling the surface for plankton. Blue Chromis have the adaptive ability to change their coloring slightly by darkening their entire bodies to match their surroundings to avoid predators.
