The sheer size and energetic antics of the Naso Tang are just some of the reasons fish fanatics love this species. Sometimes called the Orangespine Unicornfish, it can reach an adult size of eighteen inches easily if allowed a bare minimum aquarium environment of 180 gallons and abundant seaweed and algae to fuel its quick development. The Naso lituratus originate in Fiji and the Hawaiian Islands representing a vast spectrum of reef safe inhabitants that have been brought to homes and businesses worldwide. Hobbyists enjoy the personable nature displayed at feeding time as the Naso Tang will frequently visit the surface of the water and interact with its host.
Even in the larger enclosures it is suggested that only one of these be kept at a time. They can be inter-species aggressive and are very territorial towards other Tangs. Generally observed to be passive towards other species, like all Tangs they do require 3 to 4 feedings a day to avoid bullying for food. Naso Tangs have been known to leap from ill kept environments, so a tight-fitting lid is highly recommended. Caring for a Naso Tang can be moderately difficult, however if given proper planning ahead of introduction, acclimation is smooth and seamless.
