The Orangelined or Undulate Triggerfish are considered one of the most aggressive species in the Triggerfish family. Originally from the Indo-Pacific Ocean from the waters near Fiji, the Undulate Triggerfish are as beautiful as they are deadly. It is often recommended to house this Triggerfish either alone in a tank of at least fifty gallons or with tank mates in at least 180 gallons to allow room for others to hide. Balistapus undulatus desire lots of caves and structures in which to hide, rest, and also to ambush prey. Like most Triggerfish, they will adjust the terrain to their liking and are therefore not considered reef safe. Undulate Triggerfish are carnivores and will eat nearly any fleshy morsel presented to them. Hobbyists find that squid, shrimp, and krill are favorites, however, will eat snails, and small crabs, and nip at anything too slow to escape.

Niger Triggerfish

The Undulate Triggerfish will grow to approximately 12 inches and are easy to care for if the proper preventative measures are taken prior to becoming a problem. Even the most experienced enthusiasts of Triggerfish are cautious during feeding times as well due to the occasional mishap where fingers were accidentally nipped as well. Beautiful but dangerous, this triggerfish remains near the top of the priority list, even if by ferocity alone.
